From its humble beginnings in 1947 The Broken Hill Legion Club’s foundation members of approximately 30 patrons sold beer tickets at local football games to raise money for their club which was situated upstairs in the building opposite the police station in Argent Street. In June 1960 the Club’s second home further up the road in Argent Street was established and these premises were occupied until the grand opening of the completely renovated former tenpin bowling alley, in Crystal Street Broken Hill, on Saturday 20 th April 1974. This occasion was marked by the unveiling of a plaque by the Member for Broken Hill Mr L A Johnstone. Later the surrounding blocks of land adjacent to the new building were purchased.
The Broken Hill Legion Club in recent years has purchased and restored to its former glory the premier boutique four and half star Royal Exchange Hotel.
In 2008, the Club “opened up” with renovations in the dining and lounge area. It currently has 4000 members and between the Legion Club and Royal Exchange Hotel employs forty staff.
The “moving forward” theme was introduced and in 2009 the Board agreed on the new trading name Club Legion along with a new logo and website.
